A BRIEF HISTORICAL COMMENT:
The style of this wall mural is Andalusian, adopted by the Turkish Bey of Tunis during the Ottoman Empire of Turkey in Northern Africa. Ottoman Tunis refers to the episode of the Turkish presence in Ifriqiya (previous name of Tunisia) during the course of three centuries, from the 16th century until the 18th century, when Tunisia was officially integrated into the Ottoman Empire as the Eyalet of Tunis (province). Eventually including all of the Maghrib except Morocco.
The Bey of Tunis (Turkish: gazi commander) in Tunisia was a leading officer who supervised the internal administration and the collection of taxes. He introduced the andalusian style in Tunisian homes and decorations, one of them is the famous arch painted in pale pink, supported by two elegant columns in this wall mural.
